I think that a
blog is the highest level of social interaction in the current media environment. Blogs allow a high grade of interaction among web users, more than any other social media. The blogger doesn't have number of characters restrictions and can post either full articles or just single "disconnected" ideas, every post can be related to others and demand for comments and feedbacks. The free stream of thoughts and ideas creates a proper window on the blogger idea of information, thought as a selection of elements provided to the users.
To leave comments and to refer to primary source documents is the step that makes it a real interaction experience, it is not just a showcase, it becomes a creative process that produces culture.
I think this is the most important aspect about blogs, high level of interaction mixed with no limits to potential access to information (ex. links to primary source documents / related articles / lists of similar blogs) create culture and more awareness of the new ways of socialization.

Have you looked at platforms like Amplify and Posterous? Do they better reflect remix culture, for example, than a more traditional blog?
I think that platforms like Amplify and Posterous are really interesting examples of how social medias should develop. Traditional blogs have a huge potential and offer a really wide range of opportunities: by clicking three commands like post, link and insert, you can share what you want and create as many connections as the social environment offers. The problem is that, to use properly the opportunities offered by the social environment, there is a urgent need of educational support and facilitators. I am talking about real experts who share their knowledge about socialization in the present environment and tools like the ones offered by some platforms (search by categories, sharing tools) that make easier the current processes of ideas sharing and culture creating/ remixing.
